How to Care for Your Latex Garments
A complete guide to cleaning, dressing, and maintaining your latex pieces to ensure longevity and a consistent finish.
Latex is a material that rewards careful handling. When maintained properly, a quality latex garment will hold its finish, retain its structure, and last for years. This guide covers the essential steps.
After Each Wear
Rinse the garment inside and out with lukewarm water. Avoid hot water, which can weaken the latex over time. Do not use soap unless specifically formulated for latex.
Pat dry with a clean, lint-free cloth. Do not wring or twist the garment.
Applying a Dressing
Once dry, apply a latex dressing — such as Vivishine — to restore shine and protect the surface. Spray lightly and buff with a soft cloth in long, even strokes.
Dressing also prevents the latex from sticking to itself during storage.
What to Avoid
Never use:
- Petroleum-based products (Vaseline, baby oil, standard hand cream)
- Sharp objects or rough surfaces near the garment
- Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight
- Metal jewellery or fixtures that contact the latex directly
Petroleum products will degrade latex quickly and irreversibly.
Drying
Always dry your garment away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Lay flat or hang loosely in a cool, ventilated space. Avoid drying near radiators or in direct sun, which will cause the material to yellow or crack.
Frequency
The above routine is recommended after every wear. For garments stored for extended periods, apply dressing before storage and again before wearing.
